Re: Chicago area

It looks like the Software/Firmware update was rolled out in the Chicago area overnight.

Lots of new entries in the diagnostics menu, but AGC%, which can help with signal issues, seems to be gone.

Re: Chicago area

I noticed something was different, so I checked and I was updated.

Still undecided on some of the upgrades.

Re: Chicago area

I've also noticed other subtle changes:

The text font seems a bit different and slightly larger.

Some icons don't seem to have a border and look fuzzier.

There is shading around the transport icons on the time bar.

Some channels have an extra extension to the info screen that leads to OnDemand.

The graphic overlay is shifted to the left. The adjustments in the guide setup menu only adjust the graphics INSIDE the overlay.

There is an guide setup option where you can make the mini-guide (where you hit OK/Select with nothing else on-screen) two or 3 channels tall.

There is a Service Locks Setup where you can lock out OnDemand and possibly other future services.

Re: Chicago area

Please keep us informed regarding the upgrade.  I've yet to see a full list anywhere with all the changes, so this is helpful.

Re: Chicago area

I've also run into several new problems. Wednesday night, it only recorded the last 20 minutes of Letterman. Thursday night, it didn't record it at all, although the channel had been changed. I deleted and re-created the series recording, and last night appears to have worked OK.

Just an hour ago, I watched something. When I went to delete it, the box froze solid. After 20 minutes, I had to unplug it. I've had it for two years, and never had it freeze for more then 15-20 seconds.

Another item I noticed is that when you use the new unmute (pressing any command key when the audio is muted due to it turning itself on to start a recording), it will also cancel the auto-power off when the recording ends.

Re: Chicago area

The shifted overlay isn't really quite shifted. I noticed that on some channels, the combination of the channel number and channel name length will cause it to not cover the right side. If the number+name is less than 6 characters long (not counting the space between), it doesn't cover the right edge!

Re: Chicago area

Anybody know just where the programmers are that write the I-Guide code? I need take my belt and give those 2-year-olds-on-crack a good spanking. They don't know how the f*** to program.

Last night, AGAIN, my box did NOT record Letterman. Thankfully my VCR was set to record, as this was one I didn't want to miss (with Jerry Seinfeld and Michael Richards talking about his little temper tantrum.) At least fuzzy SVHS (it's a cheap JVC HR-S3800U) is better than nothing.

What is weird is that the box was powered off, and Leno (manual recording, set to begin 1 minute early) should have been on tuner 2. Instead, when I turned it on, tuner 1 was set to 188, and tuner 2 was still on 21, which is where it was when I turned it off. I checked at 9pm, and Letterman was scheduled to be recorded.

I've modified the Leno manual recording to not start one minute early, so I'll see how it works. Otherwise, I'll probably have to go to a manual recording for Letterman, too. (Leno is manual due to a repeat at about 2:30am that it keeps trying to record if I set up a series recording.)

Re: Chicago area

Discovered another new bug: If you have a manual recording that is set to repeat, and you decide to stop one AFTER it begins recording, the new software will completely delete the manual recording, including all other scheduled ones in the future. With the old software, it would just stop that recording. Choosing 'do not record' before the recording stars will still delete all repeats as it did before.

Re: Chicago area

Live up on the Northside in chicago and am having major issues with pixeation.  I've had 4 techs out and am on my 2nd "line call" meaning they will be doing some more work outside tomorrow.  Has anyone had similar issues?  What have you done about it?  Comcast seems clueless and they haven't been much help in getting the issue resolved.    It's definitely comcast's problem (evidenced by connecting the TV directly to the wire from the pole).  So frustrated...
