Connect DCT-3412 to TV and VCR and DVD player

Can somebody advise me how I'd set up connections for a DCT-3412 cable tuner, a TV, a VCR and a DVD player?

Thanks

Re: Connect DCT-3412 to TV and VCR and DVD player

Depends what kind of inputs you have on your TV. If you have an HD set you're gonna want to use the HDMI or Component cable to connect your 3412 to your set.

Need more info.

Comcast - Geneva, IL
2 x 3412's with 16.20 firmware
50" Philips HD Plasma with Ambilight 2 (HDMI connected)
32" Philips HD Wide Tube (HDMI connected)

Re: Connect DCT-3412 to TV and VCR and DVD player

Wiki didn't tell me. Again I want to connect a VCR and a DVD player to DVR and TV. This is what I have so far:

Cable outlet RF to DVR RF in
DVR RF out to VCR RF in
VCR Composite (yellow, red and white cables) to TV (RF in on the TV is broken)

What do I need to do to get the DVD player into the mix?

Thanks

You're the only one who knows what connectors your equipment has, so unless you're willing to share that info you'll just have to read the Wiki and figure it out for yourself.

Run a cable from your DVD player player composite outputs to your VCR composite input.  To watch the DVD player on your TV change your channel on the VCR from 3/4 to "Local Input" sometimes this is channel 0.

Re: Connect DCT-3412 to TV and VCR and DVD player

What I meant was: Won't the Macrovision encoding on the DVDs cause them to be unviewable if he connects the DVD player to the TV through the VCR?  The purpose of Macrovision is to prevent people from recording DVDs onto VCR tapes.

There is a link at the bottom of the referenced Wiki page to a document with suggestions from Comcast as to how to connect various elements => http://www.comcast.com/diagrams/

You are exactly right about that.

Re: Connect DCT-3412 to TV and VCR and DVD player

If you want to have multiple devices connected to a TV, your best bet is to have a TV which accepts the number of connections you wish to make.  Otherwise, you're going to need some kind of switching device.

Re: Connect DCT-3412 to TV and VCR and DVD player

If the tv lacks inputs, head over to your favorite Walmart and buy an RF Adapter.  Plug all your inputs in the adapter and then run the RF cable into your tv.

RF adaptor won't work... OP already said his RF is broken on the TV.  Frank's suggestion of a switch is best if buying a new TV is not possible.

Walmart?!  Yech!  Better it be Radioshack, IMHO.

You're joking, right?  Dar was probably assuming he wants the first one he buys to work for more than a week.

Chances are he's staring at his Entertainment Center, scratching his head, and wondering why he bought a bunch of equipment he can't take full advantage of.

Re: Connect DCT-3412 to TV and VCR and DVD player

One of the few reasons why I haven't upgraded to HD yet is because I haven't been forced to buy a new TV yet since mine has plenty of inputs.

The TV is the common denominator between all of that equipment.  It's time for the OP to get a new one.

Re: Connect DCT-3412 to TV and VCR and DVD player

OP never did say what inputs his TV would accept, other than that the RF in was broken.  I think he's long gone.
